On January 16, the two main piers of G3 Tongling Yangtze River Railway Bridge, No. 3 and No. 4, were tested at the same time by China Railway Bridge Bureau, which opened the prelude to the comprehensive construction of the project。

Pile foundation is an important part of pier structure, which carries the huge pressure of cap and pier。There are 68 drilled piles in Pier No. 3, each with a diameter of 3 meters, a length of 95 meters and a hole depth of 122.5 meters, depth of about 71.4米。The drill pile of Pier 4 is designed according to friction pile design, and the pile foundation is arranged according to the combination of determinate and plum shape. A total of 64 drill piles are constructed by rotary drilling rig in 16 rounds。

Song Haitao, chief engineer of the first branch of G3 Tongling Yangtze River Highway and Railway Bridge Project of China Railway Bridge Bureau, introduced that the construction is very difficult due to the large hole depth of ultra-deep drilling piles, deep rock penetration and high perpendicularity requirements。

In order to ensure the smooth drilling of the first pile, the project Department organized experts to study for many times, detailed the construction plan, carried out detailed safety and technical disclosure, and adopted strict environmental protection measures。

In addition, on January 15, the last steel shield of the No. 3 main pier was inserted to the design elevation, marking the perfect end of the steel shield insertion operation。The total number of steel protection tubes for No. 3 main pier is 68, each of which is 38 meters long and has an outer diameter of 3.3 meters, wall thickness 22 mm, a single weight of about 69.5吨。The project department took measures such as sending technicians to the factory to supervise the manufacturing of steel drum and increasing the guide frame of steel drum. The employees worked overtime and set a record of 7 steel drum inserts per day。
